What is Human Physiology?
Human physiology is the study of how the body works. If you stop and consider the marvelous and complex nature of the human body, I think you will appreciate the monumental task faced by scientists and clinicians working in this area. Our bodies are composed of microscopic cells; yet these cells come together to form tissues, different tissues create organs, and organs cooperate to function as systems. These organ systems conduct the business of our bodies: thinking, moving, eating, defecating, and reproducing. Lecture will focus on how the body accomplishes these daily activities. Whereas anatomy concentrated on the structures of the body, physiology will examine in more detail how these structures function, often emphasizing events at the molecular and cellular level. In the laboratory, we will test our ideas about body function with experiments and gain an insight into the methods used by physiology researchers.
